Cleaning the Bathtub

  • Try cleaning your bathtub area right after a hot shower or bath. The steam will have loosened any dirt or soap scum. Alternatively, run the shower on hot for a couple of minutes before cleaning.
  • Treat stubborn bathtub stains with a mixture of cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide. By the time the paste dries, the stain should be gone. Alternatively apply the mixture and rub gently with a damp cloth. If the stain is still there, cover with more paste and then the damp cloth. Let stand over night.
  • A paste of borax and lemon juice can be used to rub away rust stains from the bathtub.
  • Rust stains may also be removed by taking a lemon dipped in salt, rubbing it in and rinsing it off.
  • Soap scum build up can be removed with vinegar.
  • Rubbing alcohol will clean the caulking around bathtubs. It also shines chrome and glass.
  • To remove mildew from the corners of the tub, dip cotton balls in bleach and let them sit. When you finish cleaning the bathroom, remove cotton and rinse bath tub thoroughly . The mildew should be gone.
  • To freshen or even unclog your drain, pour 1/4 to 1/2 box of baking soda down the drain, and add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Cover drain tightly for a few minutes and flush with cold water.

  • Cleaning Bathtub Toys

  • Use a plastic colander to hold your child's bathtub toys. Scoop them out of the water, rinse them clean and then just leave in tub to drain.

  • Faucets & Fixtures

  • Wipe your chrome or stainless steel faucets and fixtures with rubbing alcohol to remove water spots and leave a wonderful shine.
  • Mild stains and film around faucets can be removed with baking soda.
