Household Tips

Laundry Room - Drying

  • Keep the lint filter clean. A clogged filter increases drying time and costs more money in electricity/gas usage. Vacuum any visible lint build-up in other parts of the machine and inside the dryer vent at least one a year.

  • Lightly shake out items taken from the washer, before placing them in the dryer. Tightly balled up fabric dries slower and will likely come out wrinkled.

  • Permanent press items should be taken out slightly damp and hung on a non-rust hanger. Close clasps and button buttons. Straighten fabric lines and creases, and gently brush out any wrinkles.

  • Put a little baby powder in the dryer while you are drying a load of white cloths.... They will stay fresh smelling longer.

  • Instead of dryer sheets, use generic hair conditioners on a small clothe for each dryer load.

  • Avoid overloading the dryer. Clothes take longer to dry and wrinkle more.

  • All clothes should be left in the dryer just long enough to remove wrinkles and moisture. Any longer and the heat can actually "set" wrinkles, increase static cling, and cause shrinkage. This can be true for both natural and man-made fibres. . Remove stretch items from the dryer when just barely dry.

  • Don’t place plastic pants, bibs or rubber items in the dryer. Heat can cause rubber to deteriorate and plastic to harden.

  • Remove clothes as soon as they're dry. Hang or fold right away to prevent wrinkles and time-consuming ironing.

  • Fluff your down jacket in the dryer and reduce static cling by throwing in a handful of Tennis Balls.
