Blood
Immediately dab the stain with soda water.
Soak bloodstains in slightly salty water. Make the water too salty and the stains will stick fast. Remember, always rinse blood off anything with cold water, never hot.
Dab hydrogen peroxide on blood, let it fizzle and launder in cold water.
Dampen the stain and rub on meat tenderizer like a paste. Let it stand awhile and wash in cold water.
If you get blood on fabric, quickly wet a long piece of white cotton thread with saliva and place it across the spot. The thread will absorb the blood.
Candle Wax
Place the object that has been stained into a freezer until the staining agent is quite hard can be shattered off the object that has been stained.
Treat any residue by placing the stain between clean, white blotters and press with a warm iron, changing the blotter as it becomes soiled.
Grass
Rub in some rubbing alcohol then flush with clear cold water. Check for colourfastness first.
Try a few drops of vinegar.
Grease
Double-knit fabrics
Pour on club soda and blot gently.
Add baking soda to the washing water.
Rub Crisco into grease stain, then launder.
Gum
Place the object that has been stained into a freezer until the staining agent is quite hard can be shattered off the object that has been stained.
Treat any residue by placing the stain between clean, white blotters and press with a warm iron, changing the blotter as it becomes soiled.
Try saturating with salad oil or peanut butter, remove as much as you can then launder.
Ink
Squeeze Colgate on spot, scrub, and rinse thoroughly.
While ink is wet, apply lemon juice liberally to the spot, then wash the garment in normal cycle with regular detergent in cold water.
Spray with hairspray and launder
Soak it in alcohol. To keep the alcohol from evaporating too fast, seal it in a plastic bowl with a tight lid and let soak over night.
Juices
Red juices can be removed by soaking the garment in milk. Let it soak overnight.
Lipstick
Apply Vaseline petroleum jelly before washing.
Rub the stain with a slice of white bread.
Use non-gel toothpaste.
Try spraying with hair spray and rinse.
Mildew
Mildew spots can be removed from white fabrics by rubbing a lemon juice and salt mixture into the spots. Then, let the garment dry in the sun before washing.
Perspiration
Apply one part Heinz White Vinegar to four parts water, then rinse.
Stains can be removed by soaking the clothing in salt-water prior to placing in the washing machine.
You can also use a baking soda paste on the affected area to remove these stains.
Rust
Remove rust and mineral discoloration on cotton T-shirts and briefs by using one-cup lemon juice in the washer.
For rust stains on white fabric try applying lemon juice to the stain and then rub with salt. Allow drying in the sun.
Try covering the stain with cream of tartar, then dip the spot into hot water. Let sit for 5 minutes then wash as usual.
Scorch Marks
Rub lightly with Heinz White Vinegar, then wipe with a clean cloth.
Wash with detergent and bleach safe for fabric. On heavier scorching, cover stain with cloth dampened with hydrogen peroxide. Cover this with dry cloth and press with hot iron. Rinse well.
Wet scorched area and cover with cornstarch, then brush off when dry.
Soft Drinks
Sponge immediately with cold water and alcohol. Heat and detergent may set stain.
Tea
To remove tea stains from cotton fabric, immediately pour enough salt on the wet stain to soak up the liquid. Then immerse the fabric in cold water for 30 minutes and launder as usual.
Tea and coffee stains can be removed with club soda. The trick is to use the soda to rinse out the stain as soon as possible.
Stretch the stained area over a bowl and secure with an elastic band. Pour boiling water over the stain.
Wine
Remove wine from carpet. Apply Canada Dry Club Soda to the stain, rub it in, wait a few minutes, and sponge it off.
White wine will take out red wine stains.
Sherry wine poured immediately on a place where port wine has been spilled will prevent its leaving a stain.
Extract wine stains from table linen by tying up some cream of tartar in the stained part (so as to form a sort of bag), and then to put the linen into a lather of soap and cold water, and boil it awhile. Then transfer it wet to luke warm suds, wash and rinse it well, and dry and iron it.
Yellow Stains
Add a few denture tablets to warm water and soak overnight. For spots try rubbing white toothpaste into the spots and wash in cold water.
