Household Tips

Living Room - Pictures

  • All photographs and watercolours should be framed and behind glass.

  • Spray glass cleaner on your cloth and gently wipe the glass. Never spray your cleaner directly on the glass as some could seep through and damage your picture.

  • Pour a few drops of oil on a cloth and gently rub your wood frames.

  • For a gilt frame, remove stains by gently rubbing with a cloth moistened with milk.

  • Dust paintings occasionally with a clean lint-free silk cloth or a soft brush.

  • Do not hang your pictures in direct sunlight or near heat sources.

  • A furniture cream wax may be used to brighten an oil painting. Make certain before doing so that the painting is not valuable. Valuable oil paintings should be left alone except for the occasional dusting.

  • When cleaning your pictures take them off the wall and dust behind them as well. Don’t forget to dust the wall as well to prevent dark outlines from forming.
