Drains

  • To freshen a smelly drain, pour ¼ to 1/2 box of baking soda down the drain. Add ½ cup of white vinegar. Cover the drain tightly for a few minutes and flush with cold water.

  • To dissolve grease in a clogged drain, pour 1 cup salt and 1 cup baking soda down the drain followed by a large amount of boiling water.

  • Faucets

  • To stop a faucet from screeching, remove the handle and stem, and coat both sets of metal threads with Vaseline petroleum jelly.

  • To clean and shine porcelain fixtures., pour club soda over the fixtures.

  • Use an old toothbrush to clean around and under the edges of your faucets.

  • Porcelain Sinks

  • Use baking soda to clean.

  • A sponge cloth saturated with white vinegar will clean mineral stains (hard water deposits) out of the sink.

  • Do not use chlorine bleach if your porcelain surface is cracked. The bleach can penetrate to the iron base and cause further discolouration by rusting.

  • Stainless Steel Sinks

  • After normal use wipe with damp clothe and dry with a soft cloth.

  • For a shiny white sink, cover with paper towels saturated in bleach. Let stand for 30 minutes; then rinse thoroughly with cool water.

  • You can make them really shine with club soda or white vinegar. Try using a spray bottle.

  • Make a paste from lemon juice and salt, scrub gently, then rinse with water.

  • Sprinkle Baking Soda on a damp sponge, scrub the sink, and rinse clean.

  • If spotted use rubbing alcohol .

  • Polish with lemon or corn oil.

  • Spray bad stains with oven cleaner, let sit for 15 minutes and rinse well.

  • Use only stainless steel pads on stainless steel, other pads will scratch.

  • Rub, scratches or slight pits, gently with very fine steel wool, then buff with a soft cloth.
